Frequently Asked Questions

What material are your cabinets made from?

Our cabinets are made primarily from MDF (medium density fibreboard) which offers a great finish and a superior strength to many of the melamine cabinets currently on the market. We are also able to construct our same quality of cabinet from a range of different plywood’s available if you wish to match some existing millwork in your home. We are also currently in the development stage of a more cost effective OSB cabinet which will offer a “utility” type of look, without sacrificing the strength our cabinets are known for.

What colors are available?

The color of the cabinets is completely up to you, we have a sample fan deck from PPG paints for you to choose from, but we are able to get our paint from just about anywhere so if you have a color you want we should be able to get it. Some clients also choose to leave the cabinets as a raw MDF which is another feasible option.

What sizes are available?

The sizes of your cabinets are custom made to whatever you need them to be. We have built a cabinet that was 29 ¾”w x 12 1/8”d x 72 5/16”h just to fit into a specific space. We do however caution clients on any cabinets wider than 40” and any deeper than 30” as the shelf strength decreases with the larger spans. It is also encouraged (during your estimate) to have available some of the items you would like to have stored so we can best build your cabinets to suit your needs.

How much weight can the shelves hold?

Using ¾” MDF allows for plenty of weight, and while we have not yet had our shelves officially pressure tested, we have conducted our own tests and are comfortable saying that the shelves easily hold 100lbs for sustained periods of time.

How many shelves are included with each cabinet? What if I want extra?

Number of shelves is determined by the height of the cabinet as follows; up to 24”h = 1, up to 48”h = 2, up to 72”h = 3, up to 96”h = 4.

What type of hinges do you use?

We use 35mm European hinges with a simple clip on/off backplate for maximum adjustment and easy removal.

What type of handles do you use?

Our standard cabinet pull is a 7” brushed nickel finish, however if you have a specific type of handle you would like to see on “your” cabinets then we will do whatever we can to accommodate you.

What type of drawer glides do you use?

Unless otherwise requested, we exclusively use the full extension, ball bearing glides rated at 100lbs per pair.  We have also used the “gentle close” glides of the same description when completing interior cabinets or on jobs where children will be using the drawers.

What type of countertops do you use for your cabinets?

Countertops are largely determined by the budget, type of use, and desired end look. We do simple plywood tops, painted MDF tops, arborite tops, metal clad tops, and solid beech butcherblock tops.  This is your space, and we want to provide you with what will best suit your needs and budget.

How long will my garage makeover take?

Time will be determined by the size of the project, we have a small crew of guys who care about the work they do, and we do not have multiple projects on the go at one time so your project is our focus. An estimated time frame will be given with your estimate.

How much will it cost?

The cost of your garage is completely up to you, we have completed projects for as little as $1000 and as much as $40,000. It works best to have a budget number in mind when you get your free estimate. If this is communicated at the beginning of the estimate we can usually keep a running tally in mind when discussing your personal storage needs and provide you with a “rough” price as we go along.
